Has anybody looked at the city of Pyongyang on Google Earth? It's pretty freaky. It seems to have a fairly well-developed infrastructure, including expressways, bridges, and tunnels. However, all the roads and streets are virtually devoid of traffic and people, and the entire landscape is nothing but shades of brown and gray.

I also remember a post on Boing Boing on how when Google Earth was ready to publish they asked governments what sites they wanted to, esentially, "make fuzzy" for security reasons. Since NK is so insular, they never responded leaving their "sensitive" sites at full resolution.

There are also many Flickr groups showing exactly the desolation you describe LiG.
