Portfolio Review

tsadowski

Hey I was wondering if anyone had any advice on portfolios. I'm trying to transfer and I'm hoping to use this to try to get an internship this year. I just completed my second year, and these projects were from the major studio courses during that time and one club. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

It is nice, but it is lacking a personality and not telling your story. Especially since you don't have a large body of work right now, you want to show them you. A lot of the work can easily be condensed to a page a project, and considering you are looking to transfer show what you do outside of architecture. Do you paint or sculpt? Show us. Photography and travel? Show us. Make sure you are clear and concise on what, and why, you are showing something in your portfolio.

Regarding the layout, it is fine, but it lacks personality. Think of how you can show your story. For example, my interests are in layers and the reconciliation of concept and construction, so the layout shows these (for instance the font chosen is a very technical font with humanist tendencies which plays into my design interests). If you are set on a very minimalist type of layout, you haven't gone far enough and need to think about margins, sizes, font, etc...

With all of this said, it is pretty good for a second year portfolio. Keep plugging away. The first iteration of my current portfolio started three years ago and have been changed and altered at times since then to get where it is today. Don't think of it as a final step, but something that will continually grow as you grow within the profession.

I like it, and I see you put a lot of effort in the layout. Love the feel of a book, and looking the project as a double spread. But the end of it is kind anticlimax. The render of last project is kind of mediocre, not a good ending of already impressive portfolio.

your strength is in your diagrams, physical models, and concept. if you want, distort the 3d into superwide-hadid style, make it b/w and it will fit better with the rest of your work.

Also agree that you should put more of yourself into the introduction.
