looking for some fetish inducing stainless steel point support glass fittings/hardware for a glass & steel railing. I've found some real sweet heavy-duty fittings for structural glass (canopies/ curtainwalls), but haven't crossed paths with anything nice for a railing...
When I was in Rio last May I saw some very nice glass rail details at the Telephone Museum. I did look to see if they have a web site here but no luck. I will have to dig thru our dvd of the trip and upload something to flicker for you TreeK.
i second tripyramid as the way to go for sexy fittings. everything else is pretty much like the picture you posted. in fact i can't wait to see the glass fittings i developed for a project at the brooklyn museum that will be opening in a few weeks.
oh the joy of working on a project that can spend $140 for a glorified bolt... my jealousy of TK is growing... first a kegerator in the office and now ridiculous budgets for pretty stuff...
cryzko.
i have to say the engineering on those glass fittings can be pretty intense, maybe not so bad for interior, but exterior uses they need to take a lot of loading and tolerance issues into consideration. tripyramid came out of the boat rigging business where they developed riggings for high performance racing yachts.
ahh, you're talking about the entry area...yeah, those are really nice...the part i worked on will be opening at the end of next week...it's just a "center" within the museum
treekiller: was the original image that you're showing from cr laurence? i've seen these standoff bases (double arm swivel fitting) but they always show two pieces of steel instead of what you're showing (single bar plate of steel as post)....any idea why?
that pic is from stell assemblies (i think they are chinese). they are multiple pieces with a bolt running through the plate (not single piece). we ended up spec'ing tripyramid...
i'm not a machinist, so I can't answer why, give tripyramid a call, they are very helpful (but $$$)
drool worthy glass fittings?

thanks futureboy and dml!
tripyramid had just what we wanted. We're specing the ASSY-5915-02-01 at $140 per 'hole in the glass' in 316 stainless (304 is $125 ea)...

that's out of $80m for a hotel and casino... I'd rather be spending the $$$ on LEED certification.
Oh, we're spending over $300/sf for 120-minute fire glazing too.

A very good friend of mine works at Tripyramid, they're definitely the way to go. The pictures I've seen of their work is beyond drool worthy.
