Im a new student in architecture.Need some help from u guys...i have a concrete wall,n i wanna install staircase onto the wall,my staircase is kinda unique,no railing, only the step.i dont know how to install and fix them to the wall.even if its fix, will it be strong enough to withstand the weight of person ? Help me please...thank u very much.
not remotely unique actually. very common (google it).
you want to build from concrete or steel wood, something else?
if concrete just add rebar. i always though Koolhaas' cantilever at the Bordeaux house was pretty clever.
for steel, bolt to wall . for wood, cantilever a steel plate and put wood on top...there are actually lots of ways to do it depending on what you are aiming for. google, or a book on stairs (there are surprisingly many of these) probably will set you in right direction.
You can go for loft stairs, they suits for you as you don't want to attach railing to your stairs. Loft stairs are small as compare to normal stairs. You can advice your architecture for this, he definitely knew it. For your satisfaction I can say they are attached by a central support which we directly attach to wall, without railing. why no railing?

Why no railing? Do you enjoy having children, elderly people, or pregnant women over and watching them fall off the stairs?
Does anyone research anthing any more? Don't students have instructors to guide them in the right direction?
