The DDes has the same structure as a PhD
except it takes only three years.
It is research, practice, and design oriented as opposed to the PhD which is history-theory only.
Students have only one year of coursework and two years of dissertation. Some work during the last two disseration years.

Just curious how many new DDes students per year. Is it hard to finish the program in 3 years?
Back in 2012, when I was considering options to study a Doctorate, I checked up GSD's DDes. The dissertations were a joke. I was so disappointed. I ended up at MIT and no regrets. I still think that the DDes is barely more than a MS enlarged by the "Harvard" name. Granted, that was 12 years ago. I would check the recent dissertations again.

About D.Des in GSD
Anyone knows about the D.Des program in GSD. I know that it has very different focus with PhD program.
All I know about the D.Des is that it it non-funded (i.e. you will have to pay for it). I think a PhD is probably viewed more favorably by some.
