solids and voids

faits

please define for me what a solid and a void is in architecture. i need input from different architects and their perception of a solid and a void. how can solids and voids effect the quality of a space. what makes solid a solid and void a void?what are intangible solids and intangible voids? how can be solids or voids emphasized or used to enhance the quality of a space. how can the spirit of a building be designed architecturally?

any articles or notes on this theory and related space and time theories will be welcomed please....
