i love that (and forgot that) the music isn't the early rock'n'roll that you associate with the show but is much more brady-bunch-on-vacation-sequence or even blake edwards movie.
I first stumbled across this website when it was cited in a CNN article in reference to the HP/Compaq merger a few years ago.
As for architecture: common opinion seems to indicate that blobitecture and box car architecture have been overplayed...although, I can't define the precise moment when they became stale...
gehry's moment came when he did that stupid documentary with pollak about his sketches...oh wait, no , maybe it was the simpsons episode...no, maybe the binocular building..no, it was when he started doing big fish...yeah, definately the fish.......
solidred, the point was that it wasn't a symbol....
it was a counterpoint to the empty semiotics of the postmodern hayday. instead of introducing another exhausted architectural form 'in quotations', he used the fish because the of its inherent beauty, not meaning.
i must have heard a different lecture. in the one he gave here in the midwest it had to do, indeed symbolically (somehow? i forget.), with his jewish heritage.
Jump The Shark
Has architecture jumped the shark? Ruminate.
What architect or architecture or style, method, medium...Go on please yourself.

awhile back there was a thread declaring that Archinect had jumped the shark. The thread mysteriously disappeared...
good architects almost always jump the shark, but a good building never jumps the shark, it becomes a cult classic

gehry jumped the shark?
gehry's fish are briliant!
God I hate those fish-
What's the deal with the fish anyway?....
'tis a symbol. Except I think Gehry thinks it's a useful signifier of nothing but... a fish
i seem to recall it had something to do with the gifilte fish his mother or grandmother kept in the bath tub as a kid...
I asked the formica what it wanted to be and it said 'a fish'

betadine,
i've read that somewhere also...the typical "influenced, made a strong imprint during childhood" story...
reminds me of dr. evil's speech in part 1..."...summers in rangoon...we'd make meat helmets.."

'course he may have been messing with us flyover country rubes...
we all do that Steven.... there is an inside pool on which midwest college will fall for the wordt archispeak.
ps. he has a phobia of kippers. just kidding or am I?
is it possible to pinpoint exactly when this officially jumped the shark?
per is the shark
pearly white
maybe he humped the shark and then held it over his head in revelry
Spark - that would be a new thread then
"Has Architecture Humped the Shark? Ruminate."
