you could combine A's and Stides' suggestions by going to cabrini-green and then the fake prairie-style dominick's nearby. is it on division or north ave? i cannot remember, it's been two years since i've been in chicago
while you are at IIT you must go see sullivan's pilgram baptist church that burnt down and left the massive stone walls up.... 33rd & indiana or michigan i believe...

The garden and sculptures at millenium park are pretty sweet. Also, the McCormick center at IIT: Mies+Koolhaas=?
If you're a FLLW fan there is a ton to see. I would recommend Robie House and the house/studio, and Unity temple.
I would definitely second going to IIT.
