can anyone please explain to me why mullets are coming back into style? speaking as a quasi sheltered midwestern girl, i must have missed the memo. does anyone out there think this hairstyle is hot?
what will it be next... wicker shoes for men? black concert t-shirts with the sleeves ripped off?
is there a particular reason why the top has to be so much shorter than the back? does this create a lower-maintenance haircut? i've seen this style more on men, not so much on women (younger than 40, that is)
You can probably blame this on the same people who brought us the trucker hat and the shaggy hair.
My problem with the 80s is that I don't understand how people back then could have been attracted to one another enough to do anything like get married and have kids. Everyone looked ridiculous.
I'd like to know how I could help stop the mullet, because my greatest fear in life now is that the mullet could pave the way for the return of the "fan/wave bangs" look for women and I will have to make the painful choice to die alone.

A few weeks ago I was coming home one night and saw a guy in a jean jacket & one glorious mullet as he stepped into his Ford Escort (no - really, a 80's vintage Escort!) and drove off into the night, presuambly listening to Diamond Dave vintage Van Halen - It was like we had spotted a Wooly Mammoth! (except he was kinda little)
Actually he looked a little (too much) like Bruce McCulloch's lead singer character who only got far enough into a song to sing "one, two, three, four, check, check..."
No body likes a tease... I thought I had an admirer.... Anyway I need to get going, I've got a skidplate to install on my truck and I can hear G&R calling me from the garage stereo.
Just for the record I had my mullet way before any puma clad hippster thought thier ironic counter culture attire was so anti-fashion it was fashionable. Looks like it's time for a haircut. Ok so I don't really have a mullet.
i welcome it, and am patiently waiting while its germinal phase comes to. just got back from italy last week and was excited to see every other euro-hipster had a baby mullet.
good point orEqual - fortunately i had the "fan/wave bangs" when i was 12 when it didn't really matter what you did with your hair, nor did it influence my ability to attract potential husbands because let's face it, boys just didn't care at the time. there were always people touching my hair to see if it would retain its shape after compression, not a good thing for adults. i think my lungs are still recovering from all the hairspray involved.
a lot of the 80's wear is already full bloom at places like urban outfitters which is fine with me, i'm just dreading the hair that comes with it.
so a baby mullet.... is it sort of like a faux-hawk in that it doesn't realize its full potential as a full grown mullet? perhaps this is the thing that defines the decade... a bunch of half-ass trends that never really made it all the way?
my office is in the front 3000 of a 16000 sf warehouse. the back is wide open space for the boss' car collection, impromptu movie nights, and other get-togethers, sometimes with bands.
the boss calls the building 'the mullet': business in the front, party in the back.
