Joint Rendering

mightylittle™

Not the fun digital-blunt kind, but I just heard of an OSX script for pooling bandwidth across a network to speed up rendering.

Apparently developed for apple by some SETI scientist, uses something called an 'x-grid' to combine processing power.

Anyone have any experience with this? Care to comment?

this will be of little help, but there is joint rendering on the network at yale. they are using dells though, rather than macs. there seems to be some difficulty/bugs that need to be worked out. any yale students out there, more computer literate than i, have any experience with it?

You probably already have it
Apple Xgrid

I haven't heard of people using this to set up render farms, probably because most 3D apps have a network rendering feature built-in.
