Chan Chan

Any of the other 26 US entrants ( or anyone else who noticed?) feel like discussing floating water in a desert??

hmmm. that's quite lovely. i never heard of this one.

I just finished a competition. I did the one for New Orleans. I'm not exactly sure why competitions are so enticing for me, nor why, after not sleeping very much this weekend or eating very well, the idea of doing another one sounds so fantastic. I do remember one of the nights, perhaps it was at about 4 am, thinking to myself, "this is awesome. i should be sleepy but i'm not. instead i'm making decisions and shaping space..." blah blah blah.

Sometimes i wish I was like other girls.

But i digress.

Sorry, it does look pretty cool though. I've never seen them give "places" to honorable mentions. That's a whole nother level of goals right there.....

this contest is sort of ... strange. it claims it's international [every other page needs to say international in it], but on close inspection, it's pretty much a peruvian enterprise. the competitions have always been sites in peru [macchu piccu, nazca, chan chan]- now they're doing venice.

in the chan chan thing, the jurors were french- so were the winners [65 french competitors, also].

it's probably a great competition, but i've been looking at it [not competing, by the way] for 3 years now and something just seems off.

i can understand your hesitation...i did it largely because of the locale/site. but there are a few strange elements, the biggest thing is the jury- they were the winners of last year's comp - inbreeding. france has the most particpants, i think because some schools in the south seem to participate yearly, but comp is anonymous. comp also tried 'electronic' submission' this year to simplify the process', but then required an 11x17 hardcopy as well. gee, thanks. so you're stuck with the fedex fee to peru unless you're one of those who finishes several weeks ahead of time...

beyond the estrangement items, what is enticing is the myriad honorable mentions they offer (a la wonderk:)
