That's a nice image. The others aren't so hot, though.

This guy is just amazing:

trace, all this painting work can be done is photoshop too, especially after CS- the brushes are just amazing..

the difficult part though is the sketching, not the software...

sod - yeah, but it's not the same. Could be wrong, but from what I've looked into for Painter it's a million times more advanced for 'painting'. Maybe you can do it in CS, but I've never seen quality like that. Pressure sensitive brushes (for use with a Wacom), etc.

I guess I am skeptical of a 'one tool for all'. Kinda like you can do vectors in PS, but it sucks and it's soooo slow, so you use Illustrator.

Any examples?

impala, I would say they probably do use pads. The pressure sensitive feature is great - dynamic brush stroke widths!

Those people all definitely use wacoms. If you're thinking about doing some of that, it's totally worth the money. It takes about a day to get used to, but after that most people get rid of their mouse (well, not if you're drafting or doing 3d...)

Painter has a lot over Photoshop as far as digital painting/illustration. You probably can do a lot of the same stuff in Photoshop, but the big difference in painter is the brushes. They are pretty good simulations of real media. You can go back and forth between the two programs pretty easily as well.

You might check out sarah how's stuff. She uses Painter and photoshop and alias's sketchbook, all to good effect.

How long before our 3d programs fould our clients into thinking an image was painted? Probably will never happen. It is like a digitally controlled analog watch. So silly...
