how long does it take you to really get working in the morning?
i realize that i come in, turn on the computer, grab a coffee, check my email (work and personal), get a bagel, check archinect and a couple other forums for interesting threads and then i start opening up all the programs i need to do real work....
so that's maybe 15 minutes until i get into the grind.
Man...I feel like shit...
it takes me aprox. 1-1.5 hours to get going...Let's see, got in @ 8am andit's now 9:08 a and I am typing away here...
This is not typical, bu the thought of re-formatting 100+ sheets which includes x-clipping plans and x-ref'ng legends really blows!
Tomorrow, detailing...
I love talking to contractors first thing in the morning when everyone is still feeling optimistic, so I usually handle a few phone calls before I leave the house at 8:30. Then I'm on 100% mommy duty til I get the child to school - there's a no-cell-phone rule in the school parking lot! - then after I get to the office at 9 it's 10-15 minutes of internet time - but then I check in throughout the day too - ahh, self-employment!
In at 10, work email, personal email(s), archinect, other forums/blogs, back to archinect, peruse an arch-firm website, elapsed time anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour...go into the other room and begin drawing...
lb - I like that no cell phone rule. it makes me cringe to think what it took for the school admin to get it started...some soccer mom in an escalade running into a fire hydrant or a safety patrol...
Actually, AP, I like the no cell rule too, but I think it's enforced more by significant peer pressure from the other moms than by the administration, or as a result of any previous accident - no parent wants to be known as "that mom who doesn't care about the safety of her or anyone else's kids!"
It's funny to me that we will work hard to tell our kids that they are strong enough to resist peer pressure, yet we parents bow to it all the time, ha!
funny about parents and kids - we did a traffic study at our local high school last year - this entailed standing outside the building and counting cars / kids - to get an idea of load to help us make the drop off situation safer.
of course, the moms & dads thought we were satan for even LOOKING at the kids.
can't win ;)
from doing educational work - i've learned that much of it is about the perception of safety, not any reality. The kids STILL run every stop sign in the parking lot / grounds, and are probably the biggest menace to themselves. *sigh*
When I wake up, if my eyes are a bit puffy, I put on an ice pack while I do my stomach cruches. I can do a thousand now.
In the shower, I use a water activated gel scrub, followed by a deep pour cleasing lotion. On the face, I use an exfoliating gel scrub.
I use an aftershave with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face and makes you look older. Next I apply an herbal mint face mask, which I leave on for ten minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I use an anti aging eyebalm and finally a daily protective lotion.
hasselhoff, thank you for the american psycho reference...
Well, compared to the rest of you, I'm the worst employee ever. I generally check work email first, but, then the rest of my day is fair game. And I chat with my boyfriend on AIM throughout the day. I get stuff done, really, I swear, I guess my workload is just too light. Not complaining.
I don't really function until I've had a hard-boiled egg/tablespoon of Tabasco before my shower. It's just a thing I do for breakfast, and have done for the past 8 years. I take at least a thirty minute shower each morning, mostly just standing there, seeing how hot I can turn the water before I can't stand it. We keep a thermometer on the water, so far my highest temp. has been 116 degrees. And that was BRIEFLY. It's connected to one hell of a heating element, so always pretty easy to get it there. I kind of do some modified yoga in the shower, just bending and letting the water loosen the muscles.
After shower, I have the first of what will likely be 5-6 large mugs of coffee by noon.
Grab a handful of M&M's before I'm out the door.
wake up between six and six thirty. turn on computer. take shower check email while dressing go to bp station get a twenty ounce cup of coffee drive thirty four miles to work. turn on computer at work hit the can. drink more coffee. check email. and go....
my "productive" state does include the random checking of archinect along with some other forum sites during the day and chatting with a few friends here or there on msn.
unless i'm working on something i'm really enthusiastic about, i need those little breaks to keep me awake. somehow distractions make me more focused.
i've noticed how no onreally really eats breakfast, tut tut.
wake up at 7...out by 7:30...drive to work for an hour...get coffee, donuts, hang out in the car and smoke cigarettes, listen to cd's (ramones, phantom of the opera soundtrack, the cure) until 9...go in the office...check email...by 9:15 i'm trapped doing cad
Wake up 6:45, trip over dog on the floor, shave / shower, make coffee, fruit drink, check local news / ski report on line, make wife's coffee, make kids breakfest, kids lunch, get kids to bus, walk dog.
Get to office, check emails, web pages, deal with work.
Wake up at 7 when my husband leaves, go back to sleep until 8, listen to the radio in bed (NPR) until 8:30 or 9, depending on mood & level of awakeness - sometimes have to answer phone calls but generally try not to answer the phone until 9 these days. Walk into the back yard office, turn on computer, check e-mail - work, personal - maybe make some phone calls, send some e-mails. Get to work 9:30 or 10 these days...

8.58 Arrive at work. Coffee bagel, turn on computer, email, archinect, the internet. water. choose some more pens. send emails. check the news.
