WHERE I COME FROM SINGLE SCREEN CINAMAS HAVE BEEN LOSING OUT ON BUSINESS SINCE THE ADVENT OF THE MULTIPLEXES.MANY CINEMA OWNERS HAVE RESORTED TO CONVERTING THEM INTO EITHER THEATRES OR MULTI UTILITY HALLS. IS THERE SCOPE OF CONVERTING SUCH PLACES INTO MULTIPLEXES? SORT OF A REJUVENATION?
In Winter Park (interior suburb of Orlando) has a two-screen cinema which turned into a "dinner theater" in response new construction of a multiplex in the area. It's in a pretty blighted plaza, but it shows new releases (2 different choices each week) and seems to be doing fine.
Why don't we have the Movie version of the Sports Bar? Just think, a place for the film geeks of this world to hang out & talk movies instead of sports. I'll bet this would be a hit w/ the UCLA film school crowd.
hehehehe....pencrush* i am very very sleepy n the tiny letters kill me eyes..... CAPS LOCK to my rescue. read the response for the thread u'll figure wat it is abt.
Twenty years ago I worked as a projectionist in a three screen theater that had been converted from a single screen. Basically they just left the main floor (which sat at least 1000) as is and broke the huge balcony into two smaller screens (each capacity of about 200). It was very simple and allowed the original 1920's projection equipment to remain for the main screen. A couple years after I left the theater closed and a number of years later years later it was reopened as a performing arts center, though I haven't been inside to see how they re/configured the space. You can see some crappy pictures here and maybe find more info. Admiral Theater
