Layout Design tied to Database

bucksleeper

Hello.

I'm currently working on a project to link my company's project description sheets to a database of project information. my aim is to create a graphically pleasing design that will never be informationally out of date (as long as the linked database is maintained.)

So far I have been using Filemaker Pro to create both the database and also the layouts. Have others had experience with similar efforts?

Thanks in advance.

I do not have any experience with Filemaker, but I did a similar project about a year ago. I used Access 2000 to start a basic project list and employee extension list. It is now used by everyone (35 people) and handles all transmitals & RFI's, contacts, archive folder locations, project information including the contact information for anyone involved in the project, tasks - which can be viewed 'per project' or in calender view to set up work schedules.

I noticed a few major structuring situations that were not considered when it was first developed... it will take a ton of work to redo it correctly, but it could be done.

After all that work, however, I think I chose the wrong software... I haven't looked into all that much, but an HTML format with .php would not require everyone to have a copy of MS Access and it could be locked down via an intranet... or it could be open to the internet and allow people to enter information on the road.

Good luck

Thanks for the help.

We are currently looking into an intranet to do just what you have proposed- and hopefully it should simplify our office workings.

Still searching for a link between a database and indesign-type application. Will let you know how it went.

Thanks again,
B

Dreamweaver? Although InDesign should be able to export html, just don't know how messy it'd be.
