There is no such thing as a Hokie bird. What they told US was that there was a train called the Hokie Express that was snowbound somewhere near Tech in the 1800's. They sent the cadet corp out to dig the train out and from then on, Tech grads were called Hokies. I've also heard that it was a made up word by the guy that wrote the Hokie chant.

Hokie, Hokie, Hokie, Hi!
Tech, Tech, VPI
Sol-a-rex, Sol-a-rah
Poly Tech Vir-gin-ia
Ray rah VPI
Team! Team! Team!

Ya'll have been educated!

it all makes sense now.. that hokie express was transporting turkeys in late november in heavy snow, due to a high demand of turkey dinners.. hokie could be the name of a turkey slaughter house..

all this time, i thought a hokie was a castrated turkey who was disgruntled.

i should have gone to orientation.

No, it's just the Hokie architects who are disgruntled!

I've actually never met anyone else who heard the story about the train, FWIW.
