Thesis vs Non Thesis Masters in the Work Field

BEEit

Hello, so I'm currently applying to masters, Carleton, Dalhousie, Mcgill, UBC. But a big thing I'm kinda curious about is Mcgill and UBC non thesis programs vs Carleton and Dalhousie thesis programs. Does it make a difference once you get into the work feild weather you end up doing full thesis vs just a thesis project? Such as if you dont do a full thesis will it be more difficult to get jobs or if you end up wanting to do more research as your job would it stop you from being able to do that. I want to consider UBC and Mcgill more but the non thesis is triping me up because I like doing research and it sounds interesting but I've already done my undergrad at Carleton and I'm not sure what living and going to Dalhousie is like or if they are a good school.

Thank you for your time!

thesis is an academic thing. It has no value in the real world as is but you may develop better portfolio if you have a very heavy design thesis.

None.

Your thesis / thesis project is to show that you deserve to graduate.

It will matter in your portfolio for your first firm as it shows what you're currently able to do.

Not necessary.  A lot of people choose to center their thesis in their employment portfolios, but a sufficient of amount of good work from other courses is going to absolutely fine for the overwhelming majority of potential employers.

I can't comment on Canada, but honestly many of the esoteric and/or overtly political thesis projects made in the USA these days can be off-putting to employers.

I had a drink with an old teacher not long ago and they expressed a similar sentiment.

Does not matter. My master's program didn't have a thesis and it never came up when I graduated and was job searching.
