Hi everyone!
Does masters in city planning in universities such as Berkeley, MIT and UPenn look for a research background? They ask for a writing sample in their application process. Can someone help me with what exactly are they looking for?

So I went for M.Arch, not MCP, but two schools I applied to required a writing sample. It was intended for admissions to evaluate your ability to write at graduate level. The writing sample I submitted was a paper from undergrad (that I revised for the applications). I would email them to make sure that's what they are looking for, but that could be the reason for them asking in the application. I'm sure you can also find out exactly what they require on the application form/site, if applications are even open right now.
