I'm planning on going back to school for an M.Arch I, coming from a graphic design background. I'm poor and really don't want to buy a new computer if I can avoid it. I don't do a ton of 3D work, but my Macbook Pro from 2014 handles everything I've thrown at it so far (multi-tasking 3-4 adobe programs at once), specs listed below for more info. I have a dual-boot set up for windows, too. Do you all think I can avoid buying a new laptop, at least for the first year?
Mid-2014 Macbook Pro Retina Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory: 16 GB DDR3 Graphics: Intel Iris Pro (Integrated) and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M (Dedicated) Hard Drive: 512 GB SSD Can run up to 3 external displays, as well
It will do fine. Any decent school will have PC labs available to you if you need to do any heavy work. Consider purchasing a USB-connected cooling tray for the MBP since many architecture softwares (can) run hot and cooling on macs suck sweaty donkey balls.
