Rhino and make2d

ganhorg

Hello I am trying to have a complex geometry made 2d in rhino. After 8 hours of processing I found the memory use for rhino decrease from about 5000MB to 72 MB now. Rhino says it is still creating 2d drawing but it feels really weird to me that it is using this little memory. Shall I keep waiting or just cancelling it?

Thanks!

Make sure you don't have duplicates (seldup) and only make2d what you really need (selvisible) are the starting point.

Make2d is a powerful command but it’s not worth 12+ hours of processing time.

I think designers could be a lot smarter about the workflow involved..depends on the desired results but ask yourself if another method could achieve a similar outcome. For example:

Hi resolution viewport capture in rhino

Illustrator live trace

Export dwg from illustrator

Import dwg to rhino

Explode and edit lines as needed

Total time could be 1-2 hours

Use time wisely follks.

If it takes more than a few minutes you've modeled it too complicated and or have overlapping geometry. Waiting on it at this point is fruitless. Only include as much detail as you need to get the point across. Make2d is great for diagrams but it's not a substitute for wall sections or details.
