Applying to grad school: What should I do if I can only get 2 letters of rec?

ludwigmiesvanderrohe

Originally I had 3 but I can't get in touch with my third professor so now I'm panicking as I don't really have any backups I could pursue. Is it still possible to get in to schools with only 2?

Have you tried calling the schools you're applying to?

You don't have any former employers you could ask? They don't need to be architects, only character references of ability to do work/confirm your general sanity. It's usually nice to round out the academic references with at least one professional.

Maybe try using a former employer or client that can speak about your architectural abilities.

I'll be doing that in the unlikely event  that I go back to grad school; after 20 years, many of my professors have died.

you only had three professors? if you actually can't find a third person to recommend you, maybe you should step back and consider why that might be
