If it's never been done before, I posit we could use radiographic/ultrasonic technology to measure molecular/atomic deformation in such beams, and thus learn to calibrate without the two-force member paradigm

Calibrating trusses for bending & shear
Anyone know of any texts that cover this? I know trusses are treated as two-force members, but I would like to know how to do it this way.
