What tools/reading materials before going to architecture school?

marcus_91

Hello,

I'm in preparation for applying for M.Arch for Non-Bachelors program and I was wondering if you have any recommended architecture literature or books that I should read beforehand.

Also, does anyone have a specific programming tool that they use or the industry trend of what's going to be the mainstream software? It looks like there are four major softwares: AutoCad, Rhino, Revit, SketchUp. Any feedback on each software tool would be helpful. Thank you!

Best,
Marcus

What tools would you recommend on learning beforehand? (e.g. Autocad, sketchup, etc.)

For School: probably Rhino (with V-Ray) & Photoshop / Illustrator / InDesign

For Professional Use: Revit with a working knowledge of AutoCAD

Of course your Photoshop / Illustrator / InDesign skills will be helpful in the "real world" as well, depending on your role.
