M.Arch Summer Prep

Accepted/about to deposit to M.Arch I program for fall of 2017. Background is in humanities/language. What are some things I can do to prepare for school? Books to read, skills to develop, gear to get while I still have an income.

I plan on: reading up on some theory/history (got myself some Koolhaas and Ching), taking a continuing ed course at university (woodworking, welding, or another sculpture course), purchasing a new laptop.

Seems you're on the right track there.

I'd throw in a few modelling/drafting courses just to have a head start over your course mates.

Hand drawing/sketching. Then maybe Sketchup and Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign.

I think it's important to learn these skills/tools to be able to convey your ideas as best as possible...don't want your creativity limited by what you know how to draw or model.

For the computer, get the best gaming laptop you can afford. You want a good graphics card and lots of RAM.
