Designing for disabled individuals
Were keen to hear from any architectural designers and architects involved in designing for individuals with serious disabilities, particularly what issues you came across and how you designed around this issue.
considering disability as flexibility would be a start. designing a critical and creative brief could be the next step.
Why to design around the issues? Design with them.
Well, those wall cabinets would certainly be an issue...
Define "serious disabilities"? in my mind outside of single family residence, everything else is inclusive of individuals with disabilities, ranging from hearing and seeing impaired to physically disabled. So unless you are saying designing for someone who's is deaf, blind, no hands, arms, or legs, inmho I dont see this person requiring special design as much as they would require 24hour healthcare assistant?
