@Feykir I'm not sure. I did Career Discovery at the GSD last summer, really enjoyed it. I'm curious about MIT though, I'm interested in their research in urbanism, their work on "incremental housing". I'm trying to stay objective and not get swept up by the GSD mythos, to truly weight each school based on my particular interests (social housing, bioarchitecture, zero waste/biodegradable buildings, the perception of space, and most importantly, the architecture of children's spaces.)

I ordered MIT's "Building Discourse" - a compilation of theses from 2008-2013, gonna pore over it.

Notes: I geared all of the materials that I submitted towards the GSD (as it was my original top choice school.) I graduated from University of Hawaii in 2014 and took 2 years to work and to do competitions. If not increasing my chances of getting in, the 2 years away from education really allowed for me to mature as a designer. I took time to travel, meet other people in the field, and better understand what I wanted to pursue in architecture. I spent 3-4 months working on my portfolio and personal statement. (its good to start them early so that you can send them out to the people who are writing your recommendation letters)

I now am faced with the tough choice of choosing which school to go to. I am leaning towards the GSD, however I am also very interested in Yale and Princeton. GSD has offered a generous grant covering nearly 65% of the tuition, Princeton is offering 95% of the tuition covered. Of course, housing and living expenses is very expensive and not covered by the grants. I am eager to hear what opinions people have here, any advice would be very helpful. 

I am honored and humbled to be accepted into such prestigious programs. I am excited to pursue a graduate education on the East Coast ( I have never lived outside of Hawaii, the winter will be a new challenge in itself.)

I wanted to live in California so I only applied to California schools. Moved here with the intent to go to UC Berkeley so I focused all my energy there and now I'm fortunate enough to get in. Basically I have already decided on Harvard GSD. Their program really fits my architectural interests and goals, I'm really interested in working with many of their faculty, and the financial aid they have offered me is both greater in relationship to cost of tuition in comparison to the others so it makes it a smart investment in the long run. Plus, I actually have felt more welcomed from GSD, they have helped me with many of the questions I had and one of the professors even contacted me to personally congratulate me and see if I had any questions which was very helpful when trying to get a clear picture of the school environment.

Congrats to all of you, this was an incredibly stressful process for me and i couldn't be more glad that is now over. Relief! 

PS. If you want any tips on this whole process, I could only say I studied by myself for both the TOEFL and GRE using Princeton Review books (didn't want to spend a fortune in those $700 courses). And this book called "Graduate Admissions Essays" is an amazing guide for all which involved the application process!

Why are you applying to M.Arch II programs (Harvard, UVA) and M.Arch I programs (Columbia, Washington U.)? This makes absolutely zero sense.

@international_applicant Congratulations to you as well! :) Good job! Do you have any information regarding financial aid in UCLA? As international students are we eligible for any kind of funding? I am weighing things up right now and need to know this kind of information...But apart from the offer of acceptance, I don't have any clue about financial aid...Do you have any official response? 

@placebeyondthesplines No WashU is the post-professional track and double degree with MUP. And for Columbia I applied to M.Arch I because in this special case I was told when I visited that in order to obtain my license my degree from Peru wouldn't be good unless evaluated here, so I could apply for the 3 yr program (that would count as an accredited program) and waive some courses that I had already taken depending on the curricula of my university. I did the same for GSD and Penn, but in GSD they immediately moved me to the M.Arch II program, and in Penn they asked me if I wanted to be considered for the MEBD and I agreed to it. 

Those who are accepted both GSD and Princeton PLEASE CHOOSE PRINCETON.

Princeton is MUCH MUCH MUCH better school than GSD and much more difficult to be admitted.

Most employers know this is the fact because they also were architect students and you will know what this means.

Princeton has much less students than GSD and there are much more opportunities of financial aid and competition and everything else. Those who are attending M.Arch schools will admit that small number of students is much better than so many students.

And also Princeton gives much more money than any other schools. 

I saw a lot of people who are admitted both PRINCETON and GSD and they choose GSD.

Please do not make this kind of wrong decision!! These kind of people usually have some "wrong fantasy"of Harvard. But you need to know that GSD is not the "Harvard" people usually think when they imagine HARVARD.....It's like Kennedy school of Harvard is Harvard school but it is not the Harvard people usually think when they imagine HARVARD.....uh...it's somewhat difficult to explain....

Anyway do not get me wrong. I am not saying GSD is not to good school. I am just saying that Princeton is much better school than Harvard and this is true. (I am not o Princeton student but I was once attneding GSD but now I am attending other school for financial aid. Please sea my past postings ...: ) )

I saw a posting here that who are admitted both Princeton(95% tuition) and GSD(40%) tuition. And he or she will choose GSD because it is his first choice......

OH MY GOD.........There will be no worse choice than this........I believe there is no adviser around that guy and and he has the wrong Harvard fantasy so he is making that worst choice.....

As a senior architect student I will choose Princeton without any hesitation if I were him or her.... Trust me.....one of this kind of internet site is "Useful and Helpful information"......

Do not make a wrong decision guys...As a senior architect student I will give you a very useful and helpful tips(especiall for International Students)

1. If you are admitted both GSD and MIT --->   select MIT (no hesitation)

2. if you are admitted both GSD and Princeton --> select PRINCETON (no hesitation)

3. if you are admitted both GSD and YALE --> I do not know....but I prefer Yale. I visited both schools and have a lot of friends in both schools. The environment and facilities are better in YALE. Just Choose the school that gives you more money.

4. if you are admitted GSD and Cornell --> choose the one that gives you more money. The facilities of Cornell is much much better than GSD

5. if you are admitted GSD and UPENN --> choose the one that gives you more money and according to your design preferences.. UPENN especially puts stress on "Good Form and appearance" If you are a very good "form" designer (like Zaha or Libeskind) Upenn is really good for you. If you see there annual "pressing matters" you can find really good formal projects that cannot find in any other schools. GSD is more theoritical oriented. And I didn't like that.(We are designer not theorist. And the studio instructor in Upenn is especially fantastic...see the hompage and their works)

6 If you are admitted UPENN and Yale --> choose the one that gives you more money and according to your design preferences. Two schools bot have a lot of students. Actually I do not like this. I really like schools that has a small number of students. As I told you if you puts stress on "Good Form and appearance" choose Upenn. 

7. If you are admitted UPENN and Columbia --> choose the one that gives you more money. Both schools are the two major IVY schools that puts stress on "Good Form and appearance" and both have large number of students. But if you are International student never choose Columbia. They never gives money to international students. 

8.  If you are admitted Yale and Columbia --> choose the one that gives you more money and according to your design preferences. both have large number of students. Columbia is more Form and Computational oriented. Actually this is good for getting jobs.But if you are International student never choose Columbia. They never gives money to international students. 

9.  If you are admitted Yale and Princeton --> select PRINCETON (no hesitation)

10.  If you are admitted MIT and Princeton --> choose the one that gives you more money. (no hesitation)

11. If you are admitted MIT and Columbia --> choose the one that gives you more money and according to your design preferences.

9. MIT PRINCETON CORNELL --> small number of students. THis is really really good.

Upenn  GSD YALE COLUMBIA -->  large number of students. Not good. 

10. UPENN, COLUMBIA  --> ZAHA HADID, LIBESKIND, ASYMPTOTE style

PRINCETON, YALE, GSD , MIT --> STEVEN HOLL, PERKINS+WILL style

This is REALLY REALLY IMPORTANT. Please check the student workbooks of each school. And find the style of each school. Every school has different taste for design. That is why some students are admitted to Upenn but not admitted to Yale. Some students are admitted to GSD but not to YALE....etc

So if you are admitted at school with a lot of money that means your designs are in line with that school and this is REALLY REALLY IMPORTANT. If your designs are in line with the school's design orientation you really have a lot of chances to win the competition in the certain school and a lot of chances to be the TA or professor in that school in the future. That is one really important reason I stress to choose the school that gives you a lot of money. 

NEVER NEVER TRUST the ranking of the schools at some architectural magazines or websites..........!!!!!!!!! That has nothing to do with anything.............

As I always say.........."Good" or "Prestigious" architecture schools never guarantee good jobs after graduation. This is a sad fact. That is one really important reason why I always stress to choose the school that gives you more money. Do not waste money for wrong and false "educational background". 

As I told you do not make the worst decision like the guy who are admitted both Princeton(95% tuition) and GSD(40%tuition) and choosing GSD.......

The Last thing especially for International Students....REALLY REALLY IMPORTANT

As an international student I deeply regret coming to the U.S. and spend a lot of money here. I had a "fantasy" of IVY League schools. But all the "fantasy" is wrong. All the IVY LEAGUE schools here are not worth spending so much money. They do not guarantee any good jobs. More than 90% of international students of IVY League architecture schools do not get jobs after graduation and they all return to their countries just spending SO SO SO much money in the U.S.

What I felt during studying in several IVY architecture  schools is this. All the ivy architecture schools accept so many international students just for money. This is true. 

Especially schools with a large number of students(COLUMBIA GSD YALE UPENN ) accept so many students just for MONEY. I really do not understand why these prestigious schools accept so many students in the graduate program. They already have so much money in school. And the facilities of most IVY league schools are worse than school in my country where the tuition of graduate school is a tenth that. I was really embarrassed.  

Dear International students.............Never go to schools that do not give you any money.

You need to spend $300,000,000 for graduation and they do not guarantee any jobs.

This is crazy.

If you are not admitted with full tuition or more than 60% tuition. Just stay in your country and find the job there.......That is much much much better.......Trust me....

I am now a senior student of MIT.

I am writing a lot about GSD because I know it very well as attended for one year.

I am writing this because I saw a lot of people especially international students making wrong decision and do not want them to just spend money to IVY schools. 

All the students now attending IVY architecture will 100% agree with my opinion because they all know this field.

Only you guys-Especially international students - who didn't attend school in the U.S.  and who don't know at all about architecture schools in the U.S. doubt like that and finally make the wrong decisions. Going to: HARVARD! Couldn't be more excited. I think it's the most well-rounded program and provides a path towards practicing architecture with a deep commitment to exploring architecture's role in creating social good. Living in Boston was a big factor too.

Decision

I am going to MIT of course. I talked to several friends who are attending MIT, GSD, YALE. And they all recommended MIT. Not only for the money but also MIT is more selective school. And I visited all the schools and MIT was definitely the best. Those who are admitted both schools like me please visit and make the decision. That will help a lot. MIT is really cool. I couldn't believe my eyes.

Paying in Canadian dollars makes everything difficult. The dream is Berkeley dual degree... but that is way to expensive (exchange rate is a bitch). Probably going to go with UBC Dual Degree. Shortest, cheapest (no debt) and good school. Opinions?

Can anyone tell me about the overall review for Pratt institute for Graduate studies?

Also, having NAAB accredited degree (M.arch) over Ms degree is how beneficial in terms of  job perspective?
