Origins of "cluster"

archimodular

Dear all!

I'm trying to track down the origins of the usage of the word "cluster" in architecture, for example as used by Smithsons (1952), in Architectural Forum (1953) or later in Architectural Review (1957).

Please, does anyone know when and by whom was the term "cluster" first used in the field of architecture and which field or domain did the inspiration originate from? In other words, are there any sources or references which document the inception and lineage of "cluster" in the context of architecture?

Many thanks in advance!

Think the origin of the word, used in architecture, is rooted in the UK, in urban planning following WWII.
