I been racking my mostly fried brain Accessibility Requirement

snooker-doodle-dandy

There is this Amendment to the ANSI a.117  here in Yankee Land which calls for  the controls of a faucet  have to  be  located within 13 inches from the face of the vanity  front.

The ANSI a.117 also so says you have to have an accessible space of a minimum space of 8" from the front of the counter from floor to 27" above finish floor.   What to do?

I might be crazy but I can not find a faucet or  which  this condition can occur unless I place the faucet at the side of the sink.

I've seen faucets placed at the 2-oclock position, perhaps in an effort to meet this requirement.

Jerome ,   It works with oval and round sinks but doesn't work with rectangular.

Do you have a link to this amendment? I'm in "Yankee Land" (I think) and I haven't heard of this 13" dimension.

Connecticut?

my google-fu took me here

http://www.ct.gov/dcs/lib/dcs/office_of_education_and_data_management_files/sp_10_accessible_restroom_code.pdf

which says

(Add) 1109.2.5 Faucets and controls. The controls to operate a faucet shall be located no  more than 25 inches from the front face of a la vatory, kitchen sink, counter or vanity. At least one lavatory per gender per bathroom shall have its faucet and control located within 13 inches from the face of the fixture or vanity front. Lavatory faucets on accessible fixtures shall comply with the requirements of ICC/ANSI A117.1-2003.

pretty sure that's not in the ansi the rest of us use?

Best thing to do is put on an automatic faucet.  If the sensing area is within 11" of the front of the vanity, that should meet the requirements.

To be honest, that's probably the whole point of the requirement is to force an automatic faucet in to the restroom.

If it's Connecticut the 13 inch thing doesn't apply to accessible fixtures - those follow ANSI.

The 13 inches is for when you have a bathroom that doesn't have any accessible fixtures in it.
