I am looking for some good books on DIY construction. I've seen all the stuff on the shelves at Home Depot, but am wondering if there is anything that I am missing that Homer might not have stocked and may speak more to an architect's sensibilities.
I've flipped through a few Journal of Light Construction Issues, which seemed pretty nice.
A subscription to Fine Homebuilding. I have a few of the Creative Homeowner DIY books and find them to be helpful (Plumbing and Electrical Wiring, I think). Someone gave me some of the Black and Decker books and I found them to be largely useless.

Any thoughts?
I came here to mention the JLC Field Guides, but it sounds like that's what you've already looked at.
