3D Printing Your Architectural Designs

Chris4166

Hi Archinect Community,

I have a 3D printing startup and we're currently exploring new niches for potential growth opportunities. I was hoping to understand a little bit more about how both professional firms and architecture students get physical creations of their CAD files. I know scale models are typically created when pitching new clients or creating a showcase of past projects, I am just not sure if they are created by hand or done through laser cutting or something similar.

A few questions...would you ever get your scale models 3D printed? If not, how come?

If you do currently get them 3D printed, do you use a local print shop? Would you ever have a model printed that needed to be mailed to you if it saved you money?

Thanks a bunch everyone! I really appreciate any insight that can be derived from here.

Chris
