Yes. You read that right. SketchUp will now be able to output direct to fabrication!
SketchUp 8 is available for downloads. Also to point out, they've buffed out the CAD features of Layout, have true Boolean operations and increased compatibility between SketchUp and AutoCAD via .dwg and .dxf!
CATIA and SolidWorks watch out... your turf is being invaded by half-assed WYSIWYG Mo'Fos'!
Their whooping $495 software that includes a CAD (kind of worthless) client and access to the entire world's (albeit low-resolution) topographical data?
No, jmang... SketchUp Solids are now a second set of tools in the program.
You can now extrude a surface-based shape or a solid-based shape.
The booleans comment was that they've "fixed" the whole intersection tool that when you actually intersect objects, it no longer cuts the faces all weird (leaving geometry and adding double faces) and actually joins the objects together.
SketchUp is now a surface AND solids modeler! SketchUp 8 released!

Ohh, I guess I'll have to go download it.
I'll stick with Rhino.
I think most of those boolean/solid features are for the Pro version only.... Their attempt to make us buy their software...

boolean features don't necessarily equate to solids modeler

The other exciting feature is surface wrap!
Also, they're now allowing you to add data to components to summarize objects.
It's like almost having BIM!
good to know, thanks for the clarification
Sweet!
any one playing with "8" ?????
it looks gooodddd...now, if we can get the curmudgeons to consider work sharing, then we're onto something.
b3...you been playing with the free download?
