What would you give up for a role in architectural academia?

This recent piece in the NY times [http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/15/fashion/15love.html?_r=2&pagewanted=1] prompted me to wonder about people in architectural academia.

Apart from those with Phds, tenure track positions are not as much of a fixture in architectural academia as other in disciplines. So how much would you suffer on the personal front, particularly relationships wise for say an adjunct / lecturer position. in other disciplines people occupying non tenture track positions also often have Phds unless they are in a discipline that has a professional sphere like journalism, art or business.

i guess there will be the inevitable rants (i share your angst - believe me), but I was also looking for stories about present and former teachers, colleagues friends who participate in architectural pedagogy.
