Landscape architecture is the most modern of the urban design professions and represents a synthesis of arts, science, and technical philosophies and practices that seek to care for the Earth's landscapes in a truly holistic, creative and sustainable manner. It involves the investigation and designed response to the landscape. With all these in mind, Serrano Arquitectos designed the master plan for the new development Cumbres de Santa Fe.
Located on an 215 acre lot in western Mexico City, surrounded by three creeks (Helechos, Atzoyapan, and Arroyo Puerta Grande), the project was conceived with the commitment of respecting these protected ecological zones and incorporating them to the whole design of the landscape. The advantages of having these massive green areas surrounding the lot, was an important highlight for the development of this mixed residential gated community.
The topography determined the organization of the complex into a southern and northern section, with controlled entries off the Avenida de los Poetas Bridge, one of the main communication routes to this magnificent enclave. The limit between the north and south section is marked by a magnificent central garden where a club house for the residents is located.
The southern zone has been appointed exclusively for high-end single-family homes in the midst of an oak tree creek. The northern zone includes security booth at the entrance, visitors parking, and the administrative offices.
The Río (river) section has its own entrance, single-family homes, and an ecological reserve exclusive for the residents. The Cumbres (hills) section has 16 private drives with single- family homes organized into four divisions, each one with a roundabout, screened by landscaped mounds and stone walls, which gives access to the private drives and provides space for visitors parking. In the lineal section of the lot were located the buildings of 18 and 25 stories, with magnificent views of the creek.
The landscaping of the northern zone offers a wide variety of views, especially around the central garden, with its grassy slopes, jogging track, bridge, terrace and fountain. In the same area are the soccer field, the clubhouse, and a raised water tank -60 meter high- with a lookout at the top accessed by an interior spiral staircase.
All of the services of Cumbres de Santa Fe are underground, providing greater efficiency, more attractive views, and full ecological protection. The respect for nature and its resources is the main feature in this important development. A main water treatment plant for the whole complex was installed mainly for the maintenance of the public and private green areas.
