New York, NY
This renovation was designed for a family with two small children who had grown out of their previous apartment. However, their new space, a 1920s art-deco era apartment, wasn’t much bigger. With an eye toward maximizing space, McBride oversaw a complete gut of this Upper East Side single-floor dwelling, and transformed it into an airy but functional space for a new family to grow and thrive in. The result is a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home so open and fluid that it often feels more like a loft that an apartment. The living room, kitchen, and dining area comprise one open hub of activity, and the children’s and parents’ spaces on opposite sides of the apartment ensure a sense of privacy so often absent in moderate sized NYC family homes.
