"First Presbyterian Goes Green"
"Green features, the press release said, include a completely zoned HVAC system in order to heat or cool only the portions of the building in use at a given time; orienting the building to take advantage of passive solar heating and natural light; a landscaping plan designed to produce natural shading and reduce water runoff; minimal curbs and gutters to allow water runoff to sink naturally back into the watershed; and multiple dumpsters at the building site for maximum recycling of building waste.
Other features include maximum use of formaldehyde-free construction materials and “Green-Guard” interior finishes for the best possible indoor air quality; use of CFL and LED lights; occupancy sensors in every room; installation of energy-efficient windows wherever possible; use of energy-efficient appliances; and the planting of native trees, shrubs and grasses, the press release continued."
"“From our faith perspective, stewardship of the resources of the planet is important to us as a congregation,” Spann said. “We should be good stewards of the resources God gave us. [To] reduce our carbon footprint was something of wide value across the congregation, [and] it’s a reflection of our faith values that we’ve pursued that actively and vigorously."
