Portland Residence

The Portland Residence, designed by Tyler Engle Architects, incorporates multi-use spaces to give the owners flexibility within the architecture. This is done by creating a loft-like arrangement of the main space like the kitchen, dining room, and living room. The owners can convertibly expand the living room into the adjacent den/office, depending on their needs. This dual loop circulation on the main floor allows for multiple functions and areas for extended family to congregate. Even when they have guests staying overnight, there is privacy between them as the guest bedrooms are on the lower level separate from the primary suite on the upper level.

A screened stair with clerestory windows and adjacent skylight encourages vertical circulation through the home. Spaces with natural light and nature are integrated throughout the home. Alongside pathways are plant walls, sky-lit screen and an outdoor Zen garden. A green roof utilizes an often forgotten about area while reducing the heat gain for the interior. These multi-functional spaces allow for different modes of gathering around the house.
