Ritz-Carlton NoMad

Located in NoMad (short for North of Madison Square Park), a rapidly expanding hub for creative and tech firms in New York City, the new Ritz-Carlton soars to 38 stories above grade, with high-end guestrooms, residences, and amenities for guests traveling for work or leisure.

The L-shaped podium of the building frames a public plaza with trees and vegetation, and is five stories above grade and three stories below grade. To the right of the plaza, the building entrance leads into a spacious lobby, where guests are welcome to experience casual dining at a bar / café on the first floor, or fine dining at a full-service restaurant on the second floor. A grand ballroom and meeting rooms were designed with flexibility to allow multiple configurations for special events, which can also utilize the nearby outdoor terrace between the fifth and six floors. The three cellars below grade include a spa and fitness center, kitchen, and mechanical equipment.

Exposed concrete columns connect the podium to a long, slender tower above, and this additional height creates more attractive views over the NoMad neighborhood starting with hotel rooms on the eighth floor. There are 250 guest rooms distributed over 24 stories. Above them, eight one-bedroom and eight two-bedroom residences occupy three stories. Between the residences and the top two stories of the building, exposed concrete columns create an outdoor space for another bar lounge.

The design for the tower’s enclosure consists of large, oversized windows that bring abundant daylight into each guestroom and residence, separated by precast concrete spandrels that result in an alternating, lighter structure compared to the base. The podium has more of a heavier, block design with windows seemingly carved out of it.
