The Janak

Located in the heart of New Delhi, the Janak food court is a Bollywood themed recreational space with vibrant colors. The theme was set to be industrial making it aesthetically pleasing and functionally useful design. Usually all food courts have the same basic design language but it was interesting to come up with one of a kind food court model in the country. The food court on the ground floor and the cinema on the first, are planned to be translating a sense of continuity between both the community spaces. Since the model of a food court is for the masses and deals with daily wear, the design implements commercially successful materials. Natural daylight and orange hue are two major design elements. The building features a glass facade with a height of 50 feet to attract maximum daylight. Hanging from the ceiling are the sculptures climbing ropes placed at different heights which signify the heights that the existing Janak Cinema had achieved over the period of time. The best view can be achieved from the first level of the building which supports an all glass enclosure. A 55 feet wall art showcasing a tug of war over food between the famous Bollywood heroes and villains portrays our love for Bollywood – which is the main essence of the space. The pillars are the feature of the space as they are beautified with alabaster sheets and pixilated MDF, backlit with LED to create a happy environment. Highlighting the space are 36 custom MDF lights on the ceiling which go in synchronization with the wooden flooring of the same pattern.
