Cesena (italy), novembre 2014 - tissellistudio presents its most recent work, an office building in Forlì. The project, with a gross floor area of 5.800m2, consists
of offices divided into 6 departments, a conference hall, and a key meeting room topping off the building on its' terrace. The project proposal responds to a series of demands from the client: few, clear, but very articulated due to the organizational
structure of the cooperative, which is composed of a high number of services, each one with it's own particular dimensions and characteristics. The intervention can be read as composed by one prevailing part with office space, flanked by other two: an assembly room designed for over two hundred people and a partially covered parking for one hundred cars. A large green expansion will hide from the visitors around half of the remaining two hundred parking places required. Two cutouts (that correspond to the vehicular access ramps) are made to this hanging garden, allowing to bring light to almost all the surface of the car parking and maneuver areas below. The same garden also manages the entire building's ground connection. Here the two main accesses to the offices on the longer side (North and South) are reachable only through the slightly slanted pedestrian pathways that cross in the North on the referred terrain and flow on the South side over the garage's hanging garden.
The graphical element on which rely the views from the North and South elevations is entrusted on vertical panels approximately 35 cm deep that are repeated every 70 cm, corresponding to the window frames on the continuous facade. In fact, from the two vehicular entrances in relation to the building, only three quarters of the building are perceived and thanks to the ratio between depth and frequency of the panels, the volume will be able to be perceived as a single united volume, with a clean face hiding its complex interior. Such a specialized building (especially one of such reduced dimensions) doesn't leave space for plastic exuberance's on the exterior of the volume and even less in its interior. It is one of those project themes where one is allowed to focus the design and economic energies on the detail and choice of finishing materials. But, all of this has not hindered an architectural language “other” than the office building, that holds it more or less firmly, somewhere between level 0 and the first level.
The indications from the client suggested to renounce to the promiscuity of the assembly hall with the operational part of the main building and possibly provide it with an exclusive access point and a waiting hall wide enough to be used for the frequent training courses organized by the company.
