Pulse Tower

Pulse Tower, locates 200 meter west of the Old Xi’An city wall, is a hybrid building mixing residential, leisure and commercial programs.

Xi’An is one of the oldest cities in China. However, other than the static cultural and historic monuments, it has been infiltrated, eroded, and immerged by the contemporary flux of people, building, and traffic. Instead of building a traditional looking tower to fake old and respectful attitude, we prefer to fuse the old with new flux in order to find the balance between dynamic and static.

Pulse Tower captures the vibrancy of an old city, projecting the traditional nine-square layout to the vertical skin. Every square jumps back and forth to be customized balcony, like a city with various pulses. The skin also looks like the old fabric of brick city wall.

With the rapid augment of land price and the customers’ preference of big size and privacy, one spends a large amount of expenses on closed and banal residential spaces without too much life quality. Why not bringing individuality back to life? Why not bringing publicity and community back to life? Why not bringing joyful and playful back to living? We designed customized balcony for each unit, it might inspire people to engage in life with different ways. The lobby, elevated to third floor, is a public living room. The three atriums penetrate into the residential floors to encourage a slow life within the building. The promenade path connects atriums with leisure programs of gymnasium, swimming pool, spa, garden, and club house.
