On March 18, 2016, Sandra Madison, AIA, NCARB (after 26 years with Robert P Madison Int., Inc.) became Majority Owner and the firms new CEO & Chairperson. Along with her two business co-owners, husband R. Kevin Madison, AIA, President, and Robert Klann, AIA, CFO, the firm embarks on a new chapter of the Robert P Madison International, Inc. (RPMI) story. Today, the firm is the largest black female owned architecture firm in the State of Ohio. It should be noted that only 0.4% of all licensed architects are black females. While it is wonderful to proclaim the firm has existed for 64 years, there is clearly more work to be done to improve these numbers. To that end, RPMI proudly supports ACE Mentorship, numerous high school shadowing programs to spread awareness of the Architecture Profession.
Robert P. Madison opened an office for the practice of architectural and engineering in Cleveland, Ohio on July 17, 1954. This was the first A/E African-American owned firm the State of Ohio and only the tenth in the United States.
Over the past 65 years, Robert P. Madison International, Inc. has been the recipient of numerous design awards including The American Institute of Architects, American School and University Magazine, The American Institute of Architect Film Challenge, Cleveland Restoration Society, The American Association of School Administrators, The American Correction Association, The Department of Housing and Urban Development, The American Society of Landscape Architects, The Cleveland Chamber of Commerce and The Dakar, Senegal Chamber of Commerce.
Robert P. Madison International, Inc. has compiled an impressive portfolio for a wide variety of projects in the public sector. These projects include government buildings correctional facilities, residential facilities, spots complexes, recreational, educational, museums, theaters, libraries, office and multi-purpose facilities.
