AKB, founded in 2004, is an integrated architecture and interior design studio based in Toronto Canada, under the direction of Robert Kastelic and Kelly Buffey.

We believe that architecture and interiors fundamentally shape the way we experience the world and it is the cohesive relationship between exterior and interior which makes the experience of place most honest and profound.  With this in mind, we aim to create buildings that are engaging and functional with a clarity of vision that permeates throughout.  We design with a modernist’s approach to order, integrity and grace, a poet’s desire for nature, warmth and humanity and an environmentalist’s sustainable and long-term vision.  Our commitment to contemporary design is manifest through spaces that unfold and resonate across many scales and over time.

We work collaboratively with our clients to explore how their needs can find expression and how they can experience new relationships with their environment.  Each project is a unique discovery as we listen to clients’ desires and draw an understanding from the site, program and context.  We examine methods to optimize ergonomics and to address environmental concerns.  By researching the data, theories and precedents underpinning a project, we develop a series of questions that lead to concentrated and creative solutions.
