The firm has been doing environmentally sensitive architecture long before it became fashionable. Although the firm’s projects are not exclusively located in Oklahoma, they are adept in working with the elements of the land. There is a concern about the sun, where the wind comes from, and the best way to let light into a building. There also is a deep respect and connection to Oklahoma’s red soil, the tall grass prairies, the wind, the pioneers and the American Indian.
Elliott + Associates display both a unique depth and breadth of quality in their practice of architecture. The firm’s work has been described as “architectural portraits” of the clients they serve. Each project is a direct result of the project location, climate, the owner’s personality, business goals and project budgets. The projects are specifically designed to fit each place. Their success in working with modest and tight budgets is notable, because they believe limitations often lead to the best solutions. Five of the firm’s nine National AIA Honor Award winning projects were considered “low budget.”
The firm is well respected in the state of Oklahoma for their historic preservation efforts, which include lecturing at Preservation Oklahoma and receiving numerous awards for the firm’s commitment to protecting our state’s rich historical legacy. Elliott + Associates Architects has renovated or restored more than 300 projects, including many National Register of Historic Places buildings. They have proven when the project is taken beyond mere shelter; they have truly succeeded by enriching our community. Their goal is to acknowledge the past while embracing the future.
Elliott + Associates’ practice has not been restricted to Oklahoma. Projects, process and inspiration have grown from Oklahoma roots and applied to work in London, as well as over 50 cities in the United States. This dedication to the practice of architecture is commendable as displayed in their level of design excellence and team contributions. The Elliott team has received nine National AIA Honor Awards for Architecture, which places the firm as the ninth winningest in AIA history. Instead of viewing their location as a restriction, the firm has proven quality design can be produced without limitations.
