Lyn Rice Architects [LRA] is an architectural platform for a diverse range of building, planning, art and cultural research projects. The practice seeks to engage the public with contemporary built works that emerge from programmatic and formal speculations, and that integrate new construction techniques and materials. LRA approaches projects by closely examining the performative aspects of program in an iterative process that embraces practical constraints and puts them to use as generative devices. Through these design processes, pragmatic and conceptual issues mix to encourage unexpected, innovative results. Lyn Rice has led a range of projects, from residential and retail work, to academic and office building renovations, including projects for The New School ($16m) and BAM/LDC ($4m), to exhibition design and conceptual installations, to large scale museum and planning projects, including award-winning Dia:Beacon ($25m - completed as a partner-in-charge at OpenOffice). LRA connects with artists, designers, programmers, curators, innovators and professionals, merging diverse working methods to create architectural projects without prescribed limits. Former collaborators include artists Robert Irwin, Liam Gillick, Miles Coolidge, Peter Kogler, Ben Rubin, Patrick Blanc and architects Diller+Scofidio. LRA is currently building The Sheila C. Johnson Design Center at Parsons (reconstructing four buildings at street level to create a new entry, galleries, auditorium, design store, orientation center, and archives), completing work on an east village residential project, and a master plan for the Krannert Art Museum, along with several museum exhibitions. LRA is seeking to partner with an architectural office and developer with housing/sustainability expertise.
