Fowler Bauld & Mitchell Ltd. (FBM) is a well established and widely respected architectural firm which has been in continuous practice since 1917. Based in Halifax, FBM is an ISO 9001 registered company and member of the Canada Green Building Council. The focus of the practice is primarily in Atlantic Canada, however, the firm has also been responsible for significant buildings in British Columbia, the Caribbean, and the USA.
Over the years FBM has evolved into the current company which is owned by four architects and the company’s accountant, all of whom are active in the practice.
FBM offers its clients specialized backgrounds in design, space planning, building restoration, building science, construction technology and project management and has been responsible for the design of many public, institutional and private sector commissions. These include recreational and healthcare facilities, office buildings, banks, hotels, shopping malls, residential projects, interior renovations and fit-ups, historic restoration, industrial facilities and specialized training facilities

This is achieved through the diligence, skills and experience of a very talented and loyal staff, the majority of whom are senior members of the profession. They work in a supportive environment enhanced by values and documented quality systems aimed at the continual improvement and development of the many skills needed by an architect. FBM is known for the very high level of service it provides and works closely with each client to address their very specific needs on a project by project basis. The results speak for themselves with over 75% of the practice’s work being for repeat clients. Work of the firm has also been honoured with many design awards and has been published in Canadian Architect magazine and Architecture, the professional journal of the American Institute of Architects.
Striving to have a positive impact on the community, FBM encourages community involvement and responsible environmental practices in its work. Many staff members are involved in professional associations and community organizations and activities. Several regularly give lectures at professional continuing education seminars or teach part time at Dalhousie University’s School of Architecture. Believing in the benefits of strategic alliances, Fowler Bauld & Mitchell has also completed many projects over the years in association or full partnership with other architects, both nationally and internationally.
