Jeffrey Kamen is an architect living and working on Bond Street in downtown Manhattan. He has over thirty years experience. Since obtaining his Master of Architecture degree in 1978 from Washington University in Saint Louis, Mr. Kamen has worked on both residential and commercial projects in a variety of scales. His office is noted for commitment and responsiveness to the particular interests of each client. He offers not only his own hands-on and personal approach, but also close associations to the finest team of technical and building department consultants. Borne out of mutual respect, he has developed a close relationship with local contractors.
As a designer Mr. Kamen is comfortable working within a wide range of historical styles. When working on a rehab or restoration project, he takes his cues from his architectural forebears. The work is in response to the requirements of each locale as well as to the creative and functional demands of our times. On completely new projects he favors a modern approach and employs a vocabulary that is clean, precise, and elegant. Mr. Kamen is also completely familiar with zoning and building codes and is glad to take on an any alteration or new building through the maze at the Department of Builldings.
In addition to his architectural practice, Mr. Kamen works as an architectural renderer. Arguably the best means to describe a building's appearance to clients, these renderings are instrumental in selling projects to community review boards and the general public. Besides enhancing his own work, renderings are often produced in collaboration with other architects, artists and developers to help express their projects as well. Mr. Kamen's renderings have appeared in the New York Times, The New Yorker Magazine and other major media outlets. He currently teaches courses in rendering and architecture at The New York City College of Technology--School of Architecture and the Institute of Design and Construction. Over the years Mr. Kamen has also taught at the New School, The Fashion Institute of Technology, and the New York School for Interior Design.
Lastly, Mr. Kamen actively seeks to help ensure the future economic and physical health of his own community. As Chairman of the NOHO NY Business Improvement District (BID) Extension, he plays an important role in the effort to bring the best possible amenities and services into this historically diverse neighborhood. He is devoted to NOHO and its potential as an even greater place to work and live.
