LAUSANNE JARDINS

The project revisits the tale of Rapunzel as a reference to establish a possible dialogue between nature and mankind. The intent is to create a new relationship between the context and the users - triggering a series of new possible experience between the existing landmarks and the users passing by the site. The tower becomes not only an historical reference but also a new place where users can rest and rethink the city context in a different way.
Therefore the golden hair of the main character of the tale becomes the metal canopy with interweaved cables and creepers under which the users can experience a new space. The choice of the vegetation represents the continuous mutation of love and craving for something there to look but not reachable. Colours of the leaves will variate in an array of different scenarios creating a series of new and unexpected effects in different seasons.
The proposal will be the occasion a urban regeneration by a landscape installation, in which both the tower and the existing vegetation are rationalised into a magical scene dominated by the flower of the Rapunzel tale – the flower of light which will grow to cast light on a rocky garden full of weaving vegetation which will define eternal quality of the space.
The installation is completed by a continuous seating which reflects the concentrical lines of the installation and allows for resting area where the users can experience at full the intervention. The circular pattern of the plan layout is also expressed by a series of independent seating areas
which spread in the square (the desert if you follow the plot of the story of Rapunzel)
following a ripple effect emanating from the tower.
The canopy is understood as a metal profile with steel cables which reflect a ripple effect from the tower and articulate in section a shading device and the frame which will allow the vegetation to grow towards the towers in a concentrical pattern.
