IKEA may be the main peddler of assemble-it-yourself furniture, but, as many disgruntled college students would attest, their designs are often less-than-easy to realize. The "Thermoplastic Darling Stackable Chair", on the other hand, requires just one sheet of pre-scored polypropylene, a few screws, and about five minutes to put together.
The "Thermoplastic Darling Stackable Chair" was designed by Roy Kesrouani, who submitted it to our open call for innovative, furniture-related projects. The name, while a bit clunky, is perfectly descriptive of these clever and functional chairs.
As Kesrouani notes in his project description, published below, thermoplastics are well-suited for screen printing. In the prototype model above, Kesrouani used a pattern from the seat fabric of a 1934 Avions Voisin Type C27.
a stackable, comfortable, lightweight and weather resistant chair from a single material"The intention behind the realization of this chair is to create a stackable, comfortable, lightweight and weather resistant chair from a single material," Kesrouani states. "The components of this chair would be gathered from a die cut manufacturing process and can be flat shipped anywhere and easily put together in less than 5 minutes, and when not in use, the chair could be disassembled just a easily and be stowed away."
"The polypropylene sheet is naturally 100% recyclable and is usually used in the signage industry. It is the perfect vehicle for screen printing or transferring of color designs / patterns to ultimately project this chair in any environment from an intimate bedroom setting to the very public hotel lobby.”
"Thermoplastic Darling Stackable Chair" by Roy Kesrouani was selected from an open call for submissions to be featured as part of Furniture February. Keep your eyes peeled for the next open call – March's theme is "Money".

Would be great to see a video of it being assembled, sat upon, and stacked.
