Flavor Factory at Cooper Hewitt, National Design Museum

Playing with the adage “we eat first with our eyes”, Flavor Factory is an interactive video installation that allows visitors to “remix” their perception of taste by manipulating a series of gauges that control the visual appearance (and sound!) of the oversized sweets.

By turning the controls, ice cream transforms from delicious ooze to creepy fur, while a fresh kiwi popsicle melts into bubbling slime. These simple interactions delight visitors and reveal the power of sight and sound in the emotional experience of a foodstuff.

Flavor Factory was commissioned by the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, as a main installation for the inaugural exhibition “The Senses: Design Beyond Vision”.
