BROOKLYN ASCEND MIDDLE SCHOOL: The design of this charter school for grades 5-8 in Brooklyn, New York was driven by its innovative arts and humanities program, in which prominently displayed reproductions of important artworks are used to teach history, literature, writing and culture. The halls of the school are designed to resemble art galleries with neutral flooring and track lighting to enhance the learning experience.

BROWNSVILLE ASCEND CHARTER SCHOOL: Housed in a former vaudeville theater in Brooklyn, New York, this 130,000 square-foot charter school makes use of ordinary materials in innovative ways with the goal of inspiring students to think beyond the obvious as they reach new heights of learning.

BUSHWICK ASCEND CHARTER SCHOOL: The architecture of this K-4 charter school in Brooklyn, New York brings together two dilapidated Catholic school buildings from the 1920s and 1950s into a single new facility. The design reinvigorates the faded charm of both buildings while sensitively upgrading them for modern usage with state-of-the-art safety features, fresh colors and innovative materials.

BROOKLYN ASCEND CHARTER SCHOOL : For this project, a newly-constructed office building in Brooklyn, New York was repurposed as a K-4 school on five floors with a rooftop play area and two multi-purpose rooms designed to resemble a college environment. Three years after its inception, Brooklyn Ascend was closing the achievement gap with students, bringing them from the bottom 20 percent to the top 20 percent in reading and math scores in New York.

CARNESIE ASCEND CHARTER SCHOOL: This two phase project is both a school and a restoration of an existing 1950s building in East Brooklyn. Careful detail and attention has been given to restoring the travertine and terrazzo surfaces in the interior spaces of the lobby, as well as restoring the existing lighting, railing, and balusters. The classrooms have been updated with new lighting, flooring, and technology to bring this school up to date with current education standards. Phase II will include complete restoration of the gym and refinishing the third floor of the building.
